Nov. 5th, 2004 08:59 amOh yeah, I forgot to complain about this before. Bookslut seemingly think that the Polar Express movie is crammed deep in the uncanny valley. For me, problems are twofold:
1. I don't think Tom Hanks' voice acting is all that fabulous.
Apart from the trailers, I heard a few lines on the radio, and they were strained and implausible. This is often the case with screen-actors trying to be voice-actors, so why isn't this detected?
2. Shoulders. Next time the trailer comes on television, watch Tom Hanks' mo-cap puppet wave vigorously with his left arm. Watch his collarbone not move sufficiently, and watch also his suit jacket mysteriously not react to any of this action.
I thought tech was all we cared about nowadays. Why haven't we got proper cloth, at the very least, if we can't have well-thought-out skeletons? Hasn't there been enough money thrown at this production that some should stick in potentially acceptable ways?
