Sep. 7th, 2005 10:08 pmIt would be cool if I could drop this somehow in conversation, but boy, THAT'S not too likely. So, hey, ever notice how the whole emo thing is just a glorification/emulation of adolescence? The whole look (awkward, greasy-haired, over-thin) and the attitude ('sensitive' as if newly so, preoccupied with one's own exciting emotions) are cut whole from the cloth of the cultural ideal of Being an Adolescent. Can't help but note the resonance as well of the new Spiderman movies, with their big fat Maturing theme and their Bodily Functions focus, in the zeitgeist. And the staying-at-home-with-one's-parents-well-into-adulthood trend. One doesn't return to childhood status, one returns to being a rebellious teenager.
